Large Vintage Pagoda Table Lamp by Kalmar Leuchten, Space Age Design, Red Fat Lava Glaze
Vintage pagoda-style lamp base, mid-century design. Glaze color: bright red. In perfect condition. Purchased from an estate. Height with socket 48 cm, height with shade 82 cm.
The lamp base most likely originates from the West German ceramic production of the 1960s and 1970s, commonly referred to as West German Pottery. Its pagoda-shaped silhouette is characteristic of the Space Age design movement, while the striking flowing glaze reflects the aesthetic of the Fat Lava era. Crafted from glazed ceramic, the base features vibrant shades of red with lighter tonal variations that accentuate its sculptural form. The piece is reminiscent of designs by Kalmar Leuchten, a manufacturer renowned for its expressive Mid-Century lighting designs.
The lamp base has been fitted by an electrician with a new socket, cable with a switch, and plug. The cable is a high-quality fabric cable in bright red with a slight sheen. The lamp features a new E27 socket and a two-phase, double-insulated cable – designed for a connection up to 250 volts. The lamp is backward compatible with an E26 bulb and is also suitable for a 120 volt connection. The socket is brass-colored.
At the base of the lamp base (on the right side from the front), there was a small chip in the ceramic. Since the chip was preserved, this flaw could be repaired and covered with a glaze in the same color. It's barely visible and distracting. The lamp can be placed on a table, sideboard, or occasional table as an eye-catcher, creating a beautiful ambiance. Shade: Handmade, designed by Roomlight Studio with handmade marbled paper. Very translucent, beautiful play of colors, perfectly matches the base. Dimensions ø 30 xh 39 cm.
