Bay Keramik Vase Lamp "Bodo Mans" – Cordless Table Lamp from West German Pottery
This handcrafted table lamp, made from a vase, combines the distinctive ceramic art of Bodo Mans for Bay Keramik with a modern, handmade lampshade. The combination of an impressive relief glaze and finely drawn botanical fabric creates a harmonious interplay of vintage design and contemporary home decor.
The original Bay Keramik vase comes from one of the most famous design series by Bodo Mans, whose works are still considered classics of West German Pottery today. Characteristic features include the intense turquoise-blue glaze, the sculptural medallion relief, and the distinctive cylindrical neck shape with a side handle.
The small cylindrical lampshade (18 cm diameter x 19 cm height) was handmade in our Berlin workshop and covered with a high-quality, translucent cotton fabric. This is a Westfalen fabric from the Signapur series – a classic from the manufacturer. The fine leaf motif in petrol/turquoise and cream emphasizes the colors of the ceramic without competing with them. When switched on, it creates a pleasant soft light that subtly illuminates the fabric from within.
Gentle Conversion to a Lamp
The vintage vase was converted into a lamp without drilling and with a removable plug-in solution. This preserves the original ceramic completely and maintains its collector's value. The lamp base was also weighted to ensure a secure stand.
Cordless Lighting
The lamp is equipped with a rechargeable LED light source that is conveniently charged via USB-C. Depending on the chosen brightness, the lighting duration is approximately 6 to 12 hours. The included remote control allows for individual adjustment of brightness and light color. This makes the lamp ideal as an accent lamp on sideboards, chests of drawers, windowsills, or shelves, as well as for use on balconies or terraces – completely without annoying cables.
