Bay Keramik Vase Lamp "Bodo Mans" – Cordless Table Lamp from West German Pottery
This handcrafted table lamp, made from a vase, combines the distinctive ceramic art of Bodo Mans for Bay Keramik with a modern, handmade lampshade. The combination of an impressive relief glaze and the finely patterned botanical fabric creates a harmonious interplay of vintage design and contemporary home decor.
The original Bay ceramic vase comes from one of the most famous design series by Bodo Mans, whose works are still considered classics of West German Pottery today. Characteristic features include the intense turquoise-blue glaze, the sculptural medallion relief, and the distinctive cylindrical neck shape with a side handle.
The small cylindrical lampshade (18 cm diameter x 19 cm height) was handcrafted in our Berlin workshop and covered with a high-quality, translucent cotton fabric. This is a Westfalen fabric from the Signapur series – a classic from the manufacturer. The delicate leaf motif in petrol/turquoise and cream emphasizes the colors of the ceramic without competing with it. When switched on, it creates a pleasantly soft light that subtly illuminates the fabric from within.
Gentle Conversion to a Lamp
The vintage vase was converted into a lamp without drilling and with a reversible plug-in solution. This preserves the original ceramic entirely and maintains its collector's value. The lamp base was additionally weighted to ensure stable standing.
Cordless Lighting
The lamp is equipped with a rechargeable LED light source that is conveniently charged via USB-C. Depending on the chosen brightness, the light duration is approximately 6 to 12 hours. Brightness and light color can be individually adjusted with the included remote control. This makes the lamp ideal as an accent lamp on sideboards, chests of drawers, windowsills or shelves, as well as for use on a balcony or terrace – completely without a disturbing cable.
