Roomlight Studio Lampshade Workshop:
Beautiful lampshades are hard to find, and creative minds often have their own specific ideas about how a finished lamp should look. That's why we'll show you how to make lampshades yourself so you can create your own signature shade for your lamp. We make drum-shaped shades in sizes from ⌀ 15 x h 20 cm up to ⌀ 25 x h 25 cm. Larger sizes are also possible by prior arrangement. We provide a selection of papers, fabrics, foils, and ribbons or fringes.
The lampshades you create can either be hung from the ceiling as a pendant light or screwed onto the fitting of a table lamp. If you want to make a new shade for an existing lamp base, it's best to bring it to the workshop. If you want a table lamp but don't yet own a lamp base, you can purchase a small lamp base from us.
How does the course work?
We start the workshop with the opportunity to try out different sizes of finished lampshades on the lamp base you brought. Once the size decision is made, we move on to selecting materials. We offer a wide variety of fabrics and papers that are glued onto a special rigid PVC film. After selection, the material is cut and glued. Then, we roll the glued film onto special rings. This is followed by the fine work: papers or fabrics must be folded inwards and pushed under the rings with a special tool. If you wish, you can then delve into the box of decorative ribbons - or attach a fringe trim.
Who is the course suitable for?
The course described here is suitable for adults. Groups of up to 6 people are possible. If we have an even larger group for the workshop, we will need to use a different room. We offer children's courses in a separate workshop format.
We provide you with the material for one lampshade measuring 15 x 15 to 25 x 25 cm. This includes the film, the glue, the use of tools, and an extensive selection of materials for covering the film and, of course, the rings.
A lamp base is not included in the 75 Euros.
Would you like to refit an existing lamp with a new lampshade? No problem: bring it with you or please send us dimensions and a photo in advance.
Would you like to purchase a base from us? Gladly! For course participants who wish, we provide a selection of smaller lamp bases that we have created in our workshop from vases. The vases are weighted with sand, sealed with a brass cap, onto which an E27 socket is screwed.
Here we offer two variants: one wired lamp with a plug and rocker switch, or a cordless variant with a battery-powered light bulb that can be charged via a USB-C connection. The wired variant costs 45 Euros. The cordless variant costs 40 Euros.
