Scheurich Vintage Table Lamp with Crane Shade from Pagoda Vase
This extraordinary table lamp is based on an original ceramic vase by Scheurich from the 1960s/70s. Scheurich is one of the most important manufacturers of West German Pottery and became internationally known particularly for its experimental glazes and serially produced designer vases. Many of the manufacturer's designs still appear astonishingly modern today and are exemplary of the expressive formal language of German ceramic modernism.
The vase features a highly sculptural, rhythmically structured form with softly modelled wave structures – typical of Scheurich's more experimental series of this period. The deeply glossy cobalt blue glaze is particularly impressive: depending on the light, it shimmers between almost black night blue and intensely luminous ultramarine. The relief-like surface creates exciting light reflections and exceptional optical depth.

The lampshade is covered with a high-quality cotton fabric in deep dark blue. The stylized crane motif is inspired by Japanese textile designs and harmonizes excellently with the cool, intense glaze of the vase. The red accents of the fabric pick up on the trim of the shade and, when switched on, create an elegant, warm lighting mood. Conversion to a lamp:
The vase has been expertly converted into a table lamp. The cable is fed directly into the socket from the back, so no hole had to be drilled into the vase. Equipped with an E27 socket, transparent cable, rocker switch, and Euro plug.
