Brutalist Vintage Table Lamp with Fat Lava Ceramic and Dragon Shade
This extraordinary accent lamp combines an expressively glazed ceramic vase with a large Japanese cotton lampshade. The origin of the vase is unknown, but stylistically it strongly resembles the experimental studio ceramics of the 1960s/70s. Particularly striking are the four ring-shaped handles and the highly textured lava glaze in the middle section, which resembles cooled rock or organic tree bark.
The vase works with intense red, copper, and dark lava nuances and develops – depending on the light – an enormous depth. In combination with the opulent shade, an almost theatrical effect is created. The high-quality Japanese cotton fabric shows traditional dragon and cloud motifs in various red and gold tones. When illuminated, the fabric creates a warm, very atmospheric light with an extraordinary presence.
Dimensions:
– Total height of the lamp: 60 cm
– Vase: 30 cm high
– Lampshade: 30 × 30 cm
Conversion to a lamp
The vase was converted into a lamp and fitted with a black E27 socket. The cable leads directly into the socket, emphasizing the rather raw, studio ceramic character of the object. The combination of structured ceramic, visible technology, and the detailed fabric shade creates a very unique, sculptural effect.
Technology
The lamp has a classic E27 socket and can be operated with standard LED bulbs. Due to the large shade, it is particularly suitable as an atmospheric table or sideboard lamp with a warm lighting effect.
A characterful unique piece between Fat Lava, Asian-inspired ornamentation, and sculptural object art – with an extraordinary presence day and night.
